Undertaking an acquisition to grow an SME is not a new strategy, but it can be a tricky one depending on the business transfer ecosystem in a country.

In this TRANSEO Academy, we will talk about how the SME acquisitions are done in an developing ecosystem characterized by a low level of awareness of entrepreneurs about M&A potential and challenges, a lack of M&A advisors for SMEs and a lack of adequate financing instruments and online platforms.

The key findings come from a qualitative research study conducted in Croatia about entrepreneurs’ motives for acquisitions, acquisitive processes, and the differences in anticipated and actual effects of acquisitions. The research results highlight the challenges entrepreneurs face during the acquisitive process resulting from the shortcomings of the M&A market and ecosystem for business transfers in this country.
